Shawna Bonini’s career started with Chevron in Houston, TX after graduating from Montana Tech with a BS in Chemistry 1998 and a MS in Petroleum Engineering 2000. Initially, she worked as a Cement and Fluids specialist which involved designing cement and fluids systems for projects around the world and also involved training engineers at the Drilling Training Alliance in Cement and Fluids practices. After this assignment, she moved to a Drill Site Manager position on a jack-up in the Gulf of Mexico shelf and continued with this position up to the North West Territories, Canada. In 2004, the field assignments ended and she transitioned into Chevron’s business development team which involved early entry drilling projects in Russia. Being bit by the travel bug, she started her first international resident assignment in Lagos, Nigeria in the summer of 2006 with a Nigeria shelf drilling engineering position. With the shallow water experience behind her, she transferred back to Gulf of Mexico’s deepwater group in Houston, TX and worked 1.5 years offshore on the Transocean Discoverer Deep Seas and Discoverer Clear Leader until the BP incident. Due to the decrease in Gulf of Mexico activity following the BP Horizon incident, she worked in Newfoundland, Canada and Moscow, Russia to assist with other deepwater operations. In 2011, she started her new position as Sr. Drilling Engineer for SM Energy in Billings, MT planning wells in Wyoming and in March 2012 she transferred into a Production/ Operations engineering role for North Dakota and Montana.
